Workrant FAQ's

What is the idea of Workrant?

Workrant is an interactive website which gives you the opportunity to release your work stress. It's here for you to let out, without holding back, everything that is on your mind that frustrates, stresses and annoys you about your job.

Why can't I name my company / boss / co-worker?

Workrant is more concerned with letting you rant than naming and shaming those concerned. Your anonymity is also important and shouldn't be compromised just for the sake of specifically naming something / someone.

Why is there so much bad language on the site?

The purpose of Workrant is to help you relive your stress and frustrations. If cursing helps you do this then fine - curse away! There has been some scientific research claiming that swearing actually helps to reduce stress. However, it's probably better you do it on Workrant than at home!

Why can't I reply to a previous rant?

Workrant's philosophy is that all rants are valid, no matter how petty it may seem. Their rant doesn't need to be judged or commented on, whether it be praise or criticism. Workrant isn't a chatroom or an advice page - we're just here to take away some of your frustrations. Be sure that people do read and sympathize and take comfort that no matter how bad your job is, there's always someone out there getting it worse!

How are rants selected for the Top 10?

Rants are selected on the basis that they are good, recent examples of a work rant and may encourage others to release their frustrations. It does not mean that their rant is any more valid or deserved than anyone elses.

Why has my rant been removed?

Probably because it broke one of the rules mentioned above, either by specifically naming or by responding to a previous rant - If you're ever unsure you can always us to find out.

How can I get my rant removed?

Just us, tell us which one it was and we'll get rid of it straight away. We'll also e-mail you back to let you know it has been done.

How anonymous is Workrant.com?

Workrant itself it completely anonymous. Rants (as long as nothing specific is named in them) are anonymous and no IP addresses are stored together with them. All visitor information is securely held separately. No information is ever given to any third parties.

Can my company find out what I've written on Workrant?

They could, both legally and technologically. When you use a computer at your work place, that computer belongs to your company. They can do whatever they want with it. That includes, for example, installing spyware as either software or hardware to monitor your activities. That spyware could easily be logging every website you visit, every mouse movement you make and every keystroke you type. Put that all together, and they could absolutely track what you were typing as you wrote it on Workrant. If you want to send something that you don't want your company to see, you simply shouldn't be doing it from their network or on their equipment. Wait until you get home or are somewhere else using equipment that your company has no control over.
